What is topographical GPS?
Topographical maps are commonly used for rural areas where street directories provide little or no coverage. This type of mapping may also contain geographical information such as contours and provide an indication of the steepness of the surrounding terrain. Topographical GPS is necessary for 4WDing and Touring. There is nothing worse than getting lost, so make sure you are equipped with topographical GPS on your next trip.

A special version of Memory-Map’s Pocket Navigator has been pre-installed on each unit during manufacture together with all the Hema maps ready to use.
Pocket Navigator is extremely easy and intuitive to use.
There are two principle means of control providing access to many advanced features. The first is the Toolbar and Menu structure. The other is the TAP & HOLD technique. Tap & Hold is equivalent to a right mouse click on a PC. Simply Tap on an object like a map, mark or position symbol, hold for a moment, then release. A menu will appear that is specifically related to the object you targeted.
When on the go, it’s a good idea to switch to full screen mode. As well as filling every millimetre of screen with map, it provides thumb sized transparent +/- zoom buttons on the right of the screen. Auto scaling allows you change map easily. You just keep zooming out and the map will change to the next scale. It’s the same for zooming in to a more detailed map, just zoom in and the map will change automatically.
Tip: you can simulate a GPS position by drawing a short track (Menu > Overlay> Create > Track double tap to finish. Tap-and-hold on the track and select GPS demo.
To get the arrow on screen Tap on the mark flag from the tool bar and tap on the map to drop it. Tap-&-hold on the base of the mark, select Go to Mark. | |

Moving Map Navigation
Moving Map provides real time location tracking. Your position is overlaid on to a digital map of that area. Think of it as having a map that is continuously moving with you, following ever move you make and displaying geographical data of your surroundings. Knowing exactly where you are makes navigation easy.
Waypoints & Route plotting
The system also allows for plotting of your personal waypoints & routes. This tool aids in navigation by giving direction & bearing. While navigating its as easy as following the course you have plotted. The idea is similar to navigating with conventional maps and makes navigation easy to understand. What's more, you can use your PC OziExplorer or Memory-Map Waypoints, Route & track files.
Track logs & data logging
Excellent feature for 4WDing, the Hema Navigator will data log positions you have driven past and provide a full display of your previous movements. Handy for back tracking when lost or save the file for review later on. Another popular feature is to use track log as track notes and share them among your friends.
